One week ago I had a small bump under my (this is Lacey) skin on my right hand. No big deal. It started to get bigger and hurt more. I was soaking it as much as I could and a tiny bit of nasty stuff was draining out but it wasn't getting better. I finally decided that I couldn't go on any longer with limited use of my right hand...and there was a red streak up my forearm and my armpit was sore. I don't have a regular doctor since I spend every other year at the OB-GYN. I went to an urgent care. I waited and waited and finally saw a doctor. The doctor poked and squeezed me until stuff came out of my hand and I started crying. (I cryed a lot. I hate to cry. It was partly pain but mostly stress). The doctor told me that she was going to do a "direct admit" at the emergency room...instead of waiting at the hospital they would call me when my room was ready and I would go straight in. The urgent care is linked to a specific hospital that is pretty far from my house...but I wasn't going to have to wait so it sounded good. Joseph met me at home, we tried to get the kids ready to go to another house, and the hospital called and said they were ready. We drove down there. We had to take a golf cart shuttle from where we parked to where I needed to check in. A quote from Joseph..."This is like Disneyland." hmph...not really...more like a golf cart shuttle in the hospital parking lot in a not-so-nice part of town.... We waited for over 2 hours to go up to the room that was "ready" before we even left the house. It didn't take too long before the doctor was in to cut open my wound. It felt so much better after he squeezed all the nasty junk out. Joseph went home and I was supposed to get an iv with antibiotics and pain killers. I kept asking and asking but the iv people didn't come. After 9:30pm (I had been at the hospital for 6.5 hours already!) they came to put the iv in. The iv nurse was excited that I had beautiful veins compared to the other people she had worked with that night...drug addicts and people that were really hurt and bleeding all over. THEN the nurse came in and gave me the antibiotic. It took about 10 minutes. Then early this morning I got another dose. The doctor looked at my hand and said I could go. I waited another 2 hours before the nurse came to take the iv...that was hooked to nothing...out of my arm. I'm so tired of sitting and doing nothing! I felt like I was the first normal person they had seen and since I wasn't dying that second, they didn't know what to do with me. I hope I never have to do that again! Some good things did come out of it (besides pus)...Joseph watched the doctor and realized that he does almost the exact same thing on himself as the doctor did to me, Joseph got some good quality bonding time with the boys, and I found out I weigh less than I thought! (the nurse looked shocked to see how happy I was even though I weigh what I do). Enough writing...on to the pictures!

Thanks for the warning, but I had to look! That is so disgusting. I hope that never happens to you again.
wow. that's really gross.
I still think that Josey is passing boils and the like onto you. Maybe you should get rid of him. Uh......hospitals are over-rated and nobody seems to be in a hurry to take care of you but, I'm glad you are getting better.
That is sick.
Lacey I am glad you are better, but that is pretty gross!
Lacey I am glad you are better, but that is still really gross!
What a pain! (Literally!)
How frustrating to be put through all that!
I hope you get feeling better soon!
Uhhhhhh......now that I've seen that last picture, I would have to say that I almost barfed. I'm surprised they didn't pack that thing. Or did they? Do they know what caused it?? Please tell.
Ouch!
Ok that is gross..but I would have loved to watch them squeeze it all out!! That is just as gross huh!
I am sick.
That is pretty nasty looking. I sure hope you are feeling better.
And in case you are wondering, I'll let you off the hook for never calling...
But next time you better have an even more extreme excuse! :)

Ok, I have to know, what in the world was it? I am placing my money on a spider bite. Are you doing better?
I am sorry you had to go through that. I am glad it was a short stay..hospitals are no fun. So..tell us what caused it? a spider bite?
Looks so painful!! So what was it?
sorry everybody...it wasn't anything exciting...just an abscess. don't know what caused it. it feels SO much better. i'll be able to post a pretty hand picture by the end of this week!
